NFL Combine
February 23, 2008

You may have read about the NFL Combine beginning shortly. I have no greater anticipation for the prospects then before. This years Combine will be held in Indianapolis, at the RCA dome. (Maybe the Mannings will be there!!) Six days of workouts and evaluations; you have to be at the top of your game. It is difficult to make a name for your self when you are 1 of 700 people. And I thought the show 1 vs. 100 was hard.
Here is the criteria one will be test on:40-yard dash (I ran a 4.7 in high school), bench press (to show how many line man you can push off you once you are down), three cone drill (it’s just for fun), broad jump (for those times that you be standing still in a game and have to jump forward), vertical leap (for those times you have to out jump Moss for the ball), 20-yard shuttle (how many running backs do you see break into a 20-year run - maybe 3 times in a game at most?), 60-yard shuttle (for that once in a blue moon opening created by your O line), position specific drills (because they don’t want you trying out for a safety position when you are Line Backer), physical measurements (do you roll with 22’s?), NFL team interviews(too sho hows you speeek good), the Wonderlic test (lick something, and wonder what it was later), the Cybex test (joint test), injury evaluation(this eval is to show how well you respond to pain, well how well you can hide responding to pain).
The Combine goes for 6 days, starting tomorrow - top picks? Being a big USC fan, I want all USC players to get picked first, and then the no namers National Champions and such; along with a few University of Washington and Washington State fellows.
Matt Ryan of Boston College should sweep the QB evaluations, and Brian Brohm of Louisville should come in a close second. My pick for #1 Wide Receiver is DeSean Jackson of California. Arkansas’ Darren McFadden and Illiois’ Rashard Mendenhall are going to destroy the competition in Running Backs. The other positions…meh, I haven’t decided yet (frankly, not interested).
Now, let’s see you guys next year out there.
Juice,
I like that wonderlic test….that’s funny… Funny but informative post.
Thanks…
