Pro Bowl Trip Day 6 - Feb 9
Sorry for the delay in posting. I was busy the last two days of the trip. I was not only covering the Pro Bowl activities, I was also meeting up with family and friends.
Billy V and Chris Fuamatu-Ma’afala
Saturday was the Pro Bowl’s Ohana Day. There was an appearance by NFL star Chris Fuamatu-Ma’afala. Local island radio personality Billy V, interviewed Fuamatu-Ma’afala who spoke a few inspirational words to the local Hawaii School kids.
Cory Takata Punt Contest Winner
The day was full of festivities for local school kids, including a punt contest. Times supermarket contest winner, Cory Takata was challenged to punt the ball as far as he could. For every yard that he punt the ball, he would win $100.00. Cory Takata ended up punting for over 60 yards into the end zone, winning $6,000.00.
AFC and NFC Pro Bowl Cheerleaders
Pro Bowl Cheerleaders performed , AFC and NFC players practiced for their fans, and mascots were running around entertaining fans. There were hunderds of fans, awaiting for players to sign autographs. But, the disappointing part of this day was that I did not see any AFC players sign autographs. There were two NFC players that should be commended, those two was Seattle Seahawk Lofa Tatupu and Dallas Cowboy Terence Newman. They both took the time out to sign autographs for their fans.
Lofa Tatupu signs autographs at Ohana Day
Back when I was growing up in Hawai’i, my dad used to take me every year to Ohana Day for autographs. In those days, majority of the players took the time out to sign autographs. Times are changing and I appreciated seeing Tatupu and Newman taking the time out to sign.
