Seattle Seahawks: Matt Hasselbeck and Lofa Tatupu

Today’s practice session started with the AFC, they started a little early at about 8:40 am instead of 9:00 am.  So, with my luck, Tak Makita and myself decided to stop at Zippy’s Restaurant for breakfast, thinking we had alot of time.  Needless to say, we arrived at 9am and the practice already started.  Today was hot, I was wearing jeans and my Seattle Sombero, thinking it might rain. But it, didn’t rain at all and it’s a good think because as I write this….it is pouring rain, just like Seattle.

Tak introducted me to his photo assistant Jerome Werner of Nanakuli, Hawai’i.  Jermone is childhood friends with Konishiki, the sumo wrestler we met at Ashahi Grill a few days ago. Anyway, Jerome makes custom ukuleles for a living and also gives lessons.  His email is westcoastukes@yahoo.com, if you like one made.

Okay, Tak probably won’t like this but here goes.  I’ve been talking about Tak off and on throughout my blogs.  I met Tak, while covering Super Bowl XL.  Tak lives in New York and has photographed 40 Super Bowls in his career.  Tak became a good friend and now part of my ohana (family).

Back to football, the NFC arrived on time at about 10:30 am. They ran a few plays and called it a day. For those, that haven’t attended a practice before, there’s alot of standing around.  For the photographer, that means not much opportunity for action shots.

I also briefly spoke to University of Hawai’i assistant coach Rich Miano about this year’s recruiting, he said they did pretty well and the list should be out today.   And yes, the whole UH coaching staff was there, led by Head Coach Greg McMackin.

Okay, it’s day 4 of Pro Bowl week. I up and ready to go at 6am.  Today, I have to fight traffic (1 hour drive for 12 miles) to pick up a friend at Hilton Hawaiian Village.   Then it’s off to Kapolei for more Pro Bowl practice photos at 9 am.

By the way, where’s my readers?  Do me a favor and drop a comment or two so I know you are there…good comments please!!

  1. Hey, Steve! Looks like you had a lot of fun out there. You also got to talk to the UH coaching staff. You lucky “bugga!” I wish I was there but some of us have to work for a living. Just joking! Keep us updated on what’s going on during Pro Bowl Week and let’s see some photos! Keep up the good work!
